A Geodata Operator, in order to support the growth of our flagship product, Belmap.

Belmap is our geodata flagship product that encompasses all Belgian addresses and buildings with a multitude of linked data properties and gives an elaborate description of characteristics and activities at any given location. Through Belmap, retailers can for instance understand where their customers live, work and shop. Utility network operators can optimize their network planning, design, roll-out and operations and distribution companies can optimize their address management and logistics. Belmap thus enables better decision-making based on clear location insights. The objective is to evolve the product into a complete and highly detailed digital twin of the build-up territory.

I am a crucial part of GIM’s product team where I help to maintain and keep Belmap up-to-date. I ensure the quality of our geo-data by analyzing and validating proposed changes, and in this way ensuring our customers can make better decisions based on up-to-date and accurate location insights. I follow the right instructions and procedures to correctly enrich the Belmap database with new or updated information on addresses, buildings and roads. On a daily basis I examine new input and search for correct information to evaluate if the updates need to be accepted, corrected or rejected.

Because I am motivated to provide high-quality work with a keen eye for detail, I can easily spot non-conformities in the data presented to me. My experience with regular office software (MS Office, Internet) is a must-have. Affinity with GIS and ETL tools is useful, though probably not a prerequisite to start successfully in my role. Usually, I will make use of the specific tooling that for this purpose has been developed by my team members. Nevertheless, I have a strong interest to use GIS and ETL tools more occasionally. With the necessary training and guidance, I will further develop and improve these competences and skills which in the end will allow me to take responsibility of the data quality processes of Belmap.

In this role I have the opportunity to get in close interaction with our customers as I analyze, process, and respond to their geo-data requests. While I handle customer requests independently, I can count on support of the entire team for advice when more complex problems arise. I am often in contact with our regular customers and enjoy providing them with a swift service. Our customers know me as a communicative and positive-minded problem solver. I mostly communicate with them in English, but I can also use my understanding of the French and Dutch language to interpret short texts in documents that are sent to me.

I give feedback to my colleagues about the quality of the data I receive, so that they can set up possible improvements to upgrade the data quality. I also participate in team meetings where our processes and the data quality is discussed. Overall, I contribute to the completeness and accuracy of our Belmap product through the validation of data, the satisfaction of our regular clients through a superb service, and the positive atmosphere in our product team by being a colleague everyone can count on.
